YikeBike is a statement about using smart technology to solve the problems of our increasingly congested, polluted, stressful cities. It is the first commercial expression of the mini-farthing concept, created up by a bunch of successful entrepreneurs, engineers and dreamers.

The YikeBike is a world"s first in design, application & technology. Weighing just 10.8kg the YikeBike is the smallest folding electric bike in the world. With the ability to fold up or unfold in just 15 seconds and travel at 23km/hr you will never have to worry about getting to that meeting across town again.

The YikeBike goes wherever you need to go, folding up to such a small size the YikeBike can be used to extend your commute from a car, train, bus or plane. You’ll never have to worry about locking your investment to a bike rack again, just take the YikeBike with you.

LED light system is ON constantly so you can be seen at all times. Turning lights, brake lights, rear lights, turning signals and hazard lights functions are included.

"Undignified riding position," "overly complicated," "intolerably inefficient," "expensive," "nothing more than a passing fancy," "no chance of success," "distasteful".......interestingly these criticisms are about the what we now call a normal bicycle on its introduction in 1885 ("Bicycle - The History", by David Herlihy). A criticism you may read on some blogs about the YikeBike is that some think the riding position looks wrong, stupid or ridiculous.

The main reason people think it looks weird is that they are not used to seeing something different. Interesting to note that while there are a number of comments about how unstable the YikeBike looks none of them are from the hundreds of people who have actually ridden it. Yes, In our promotional video it looks a bit shaky at times because for complicated reasons we didn"t have our best YikeBike ready for the day we had to shoot. A YikeBike allows you to travel about 3 times the speed of walking this means that you can cover 9 times the area in the same time as walking. Check out the diagram below. Yes we’ve rounded from 9 up to 10 but hopefully you get the idea. In 5 minutes to you can get to 10 times the number of places on a YikeBike that you could walking. The YikeBike essentially makes all forms of transport more useful, whether car, train, bus, plane or boat. This amplifies the usefulness of all existing transport infrastructure because the YikeBike is so small you can use it in combination with anything. The same logic applies if you live in a central city apartment. Suddenly you can cover 10 times the area in the same time it would take to walk making it more viable to do more things without needing a car or other form of transport.

If I was traveling at 50km per hour there is no doubt a normal bike would be safer than a YikeBike. However YikeBike speed is restricted to go no faster than you can run (25km/h) and worst case you just step off the front. We have had very few people ever hit the ground when learning because it is so easy to jump off. A notable exception was someone wearing high heals who went to step off
at speed - learning in high heals is not recommended. We do think bikes are great and we will continue to love cycling but it doesn"t mean a 120 year old design is the solution for everything. Yes, the YikeBike feels different but it is surprising how quickly you get used to it - just like learning to ride a bike.
