ATEX Certificate

An ATEX certificate is a European Union designation confirming that a given product is safe for use in explosive atmospheres – such as those found in the oil, chemical, or gas industries. The name comes from the French "Atmosphères Explosibles". The certificate specifies, among other things, the type of explosion protection, the explosive group, and the temperature class.

ATEX Zones:
The classification of ATEX zones determines the likelihood of an explosive atmosphere occurring and is crucial for selecting appropriate equipment.

Zone 1
Characteristics: An area where an explosive atmosphere (a mixture of air with flammable gases, vapours, or mists) may occur occasionally during normal operation.
Required Equipment: Devices intended for use in Zone 1 must provide a high level of protection and be designed so that even in the event of rare malfunctions, they do not become a source of ignition.

Zone 2
Characteristics: An area where an explosive atmosphere (a mixture of air with flammable gases, vapours, or mists) does not occur during normal operation, or if it does, it is only for a short period and infrequently.
Required Equipment: Devices intended for use in Zone 2 must provide a normal level of protection and be designed so that they do not become a source of ignition under normal operating conditions. Protection against ignition is only required during normal operation.

MIL-STD-810G is a US military standard that specifies a device's overall durability under a wide range of harsh conditions, such as shock, extreme temperatures, and vibration. It indicates the comprehensive resistance of the device to harsh operating environments.

IP65 is an international standard that precisely defines a device's level of protection against dust (complete dustproofness) and water (resistance to low-pressure water jets). It focuses solely on the tightness of the housing.
